Soil physicochemical characteristics and leaf nutrient contents on banana farms of North Queensland, Australia

چکیده

Context Banana production in Australia is three primary sub-regions within tropical North Queensland and the industry faces a variety of challenges including costs production, disease pests, environmental impacts. The range soil characteristics banana leaf nutrient status on farms has not previously been systematically described. This knowledge gap makes it difficult to adapt research, management recommendations, regulations needs growing sub-regions. Aims In this work, we aimed identify key factors that differentiate sub-regions, provide context for future research regulation. Methods We characterised samples from 28 types accounting >85% Australia’s production. Key results conclusions Variation properties concentrations were driven largely by site- (principal component 1 both cases) management-related variables 2 cases). Management-related foliar did differ between regions despite differences associated variables. most important site appeared be parent material climate. Mareeba sub-region basaltic soils, low rainfall temperature, whereas other two are hotter, wetter have materials. Leaf nitrogen mostly below regulated limit additional fertiliser application. Implications Our findings can facilitate sub-region-specific selection extension, monitoring more targeted regulation production- environment-related issues.

Preliminary Soil Mineralogy Studies on Krasnozems in the Innisfail District of North Queensland, Australia

A preliminary investigation of four soil series of the Pin Gin family of krasnozem soils has confirmed the results of field observation on their history and has pointed to the diverse nature of their origins and weathering processes. The weathering pattern and origin can account for differences in their fertility in

Contrasting photosynthetic characteristics of forest vs. savanna species (Far North Queensland, Australia)

Forest and savanna are the two dominant vegetation types of the tropical regions with very few tree species common to both. At a broad scale, it has long been recognised that the distributions of these two biomes are principally governed by precipitation and its seasonality, but with soil physical and chemical properties also potentially important. For tree species drawn from a range of forest ...

Investigation of Land Use Change on Physicochemical Characteristics and Soil Erosion in Kaftargar Basin of Behshahr

The land-use change, cutting forest trees and the grasslands conversion to agricultural lands destroyed natural ecosystems and also current or future production capacity reduce and these are harmful effects on the soil physicochemical characteristics. This study taken with aim, checking the role of forest-land change on some soil physical-chemical characteristics and then identify some effectiv...
